TENDAI CHIHAKA
My name is Tendai Chihaka and I am 25 years old. I was born in Zimbabwe and I am the second born in a family of five children. I received Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and saviour in 1997. My acceptance of Jesus Christ came as a result of the hardships I faced after my parents divorced. It was not an easy thing to be raised by a step mother. I was almost forced to live in the streets. One day I attended a revival meeting at a neighbourhood church and the word of God was powerful and convicted me of my sins. I found myself in tears and I realized that God was the only answer in my life and that I needed Him to save me from my sins. I finally gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ and since then my life has never been the same! At that moment I felt a clear calling from God to work in His kingdom and I had this burden in my heart to preach the word of God to the lost.
After I finished High School I joined a Christian Organisation called African Enterprise and for three years I was actively involved in City wide missions and preaching the Word of God in Harare and the surrounding rural areas. In 2006 I applied and was accepted at KwaZulu Missionary and Bible College and I graduated with a 3 year Diploma in Pastoral Theology. Currently I am working on a Bachelor of Arts in Theology at George Whitefield College. I am really enjoying studying the word of God. The reason for looking for financial support is that I was offered a scholarship at the college for 3 years which is going to cover tuition, accommodations, and meals. The college does not give students extra money for living expenses. Therefore I am hereby requesting for financial support to help me on my living expenses to further my studies. I believe that the support will help me to meet my needs i.e. buying text books, printing assignments, and the internet fees we pay every semester. Additionally, I need to purchase school supplies, clothing, and toiletries. All of these living expenses come to about 500 South African Rand a month. Lastly, I need transport to Zimbabwe at the end of the year which costs 1,500 South African Rand. Due to the current situation in Zimbabwe my home church cannot help me financially and neither can my family so I am really asking for financial help for my next semester, which starts June 5, 2009. At the completion of my studies I would like to go back home to Zimbabwe and develop and train quality church leaders who will be able to teach the bible effectively in a country under a lot of challenges. Despite the political and economical situation in Zimbabwe the church is growing and God is working in Zimbabwe! My Christian brethren and I would love to be part of what God is doing in Zimbabwe and I would also ask you, my brothers and sisters in the United States pray for the people of Zimbabwe as a lot of people have died recently due to the Cholera outbreak and the food shortages. My desire is to teach men and women on how to interpret the Bible accurately. I believe that leaders need to be equipped in the word of God as 2 Timothy 2:15 says, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth." I do hope that my appeal will be successful. With regards, your brother in Christ, Tendai Chihaka |
